Ekonomi yang terus tumbuh diiringi dengan kelestarian lingkungan hidup yang tetap terjaga tentu menjadi harapan dari semua negara di dunia. Pemerintah di banyak negara sedang gencar menggalakkan konsep ekonomi berkelanjutan atau ekonomi sirkular (circular economy) di berbagai aspek. Penerapan konsep ekonomi sirkular dinilai berpotensi dalam mendorong substitusi impor di sektor industri. Langkah strategis ini diharapkan dapat mendongkrak pertumbuhan dan daya saing industri nasional. Konsep ekonomi sirkular bukan hanya mendesain model industri dengan prinsip zero waste, tetapi juga fokus terhadap faktor sosial dan penyediaan sumber daya maupun energi yang berkelanjutan. Konsep ekonomi sirkular merupakan bagian dari implementasi industri hijau yaitu mengupayakan efisiensi dan efektivitas terhadap penggunaan sumber daya secara berkelanjutan sehingga mampu menyeleraskan pembangunan industri yang berkelanjtan serta dapat memberikan manfaat bagi masyarakat. Strateginya adalah melakukan proses transformasi dan menciptakan industri hijau yang baru.  Salah satu karakteristiknya adalah implementasi dari konsep 5R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recovery, dan Repair).   Dalam makalah ini akan dijelaskan beberapa potensi implementasi ekonomi  pada industri batik. Diharapkan dengan implementasi konsep tersebut industri batik tidak hanya meningkatkan ekonomi dan melindungi warisan budaya akan tetapi lebih dari itu dapat menjadikan industri batik yang berkelanjutan.

An economy that continues to grow accompanied by environmental sustainability that is maintained is certainly the hope of all countries in the world. Governments in many countries are actively promoting the concept of a sustainable economy or circular economy in various aspects. The application of the circular economy concept is considered to have the potential to encourage import substitution in the industrial sector. This strategic step is expected to boost the growth and competitiveness of the national industry. The circular economy concept does not only design an industrial model with the principle of zero waste, but also focuses on social factors and the provision of sustainable resources and energy. The circular economy concept is part of the implementation of the green industry, namely seeking efficiency and effectiveness in the use of resources in a sustainable manner so that it is able to harmonize sustainable industrial development and can provide benefits to the community. The strategy is to carry out the transformation process and create a new green industry. One of its characteristics is the implementation of the 5R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recovery, and Repair). In this paper, several potential economic implementations in the batik industry will be described. It is hoped that with the implementation of this concept, the batik industry will not only improve the economy and protect cultural heritage, but more than that, it can make the batik industry sustainable.
